Quickie Book Review – Random Acts of Crazy by Julia Kent

Random Acts of Crazy (Random, #1)Random Acts of Crazy by Julia Kent

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story grabbed me by the short-hairs and took me for a crazy ride. I love the sense of humor, the outlandish circumstances, and the three’s-company ending 🙂 I hadn’t read anything by Kent before picking up this book, but I’ll certainly read more novels by her in the future!

(Spicy. Daring. So out-of-the-box you can’t even see the darn box anymore!)

Quickie Book Review – Goddess Born by Kari Edgren

Goddess BornGoddess Born by Kari Edgren

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great, well-written novel with historical, fantastical and romantical (couldn’t help myself there, sorry) elements, all blended perfectly. The characters were imaginative and well-formed and the underlying danger and suspense kept me turning the pages well into the night. Recommended!

Quickie Book Review – Lost and Found by Nicole Williams

Lost and Found (Lost and Found, #1)Lost and Found by Nicole Williams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book! Everything about it is pitch perfect, from the complex cast of characters, to the serene setting and the plot twists… oy! As a introspective nut-case, I also adored the complicated family drama and “deep” moments. For sure, I’ll read more by this author!

Quickie Book Review – Here and Now Series by Lexi Ryan

Lost in Me (Here and Now, #1)Lost in Me by Lexi Ryan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love, love, lurve this series!

The plot was original and delivered in way that kept me turning the pages, anxious to figure out the mystery and to see what happened next. There are several sub-plots going on and I really felt like I was a fly on the wall watching the drama unfold.

This novel (and series) is so d*mn good it’s crazy. I already gotten several friend to read it and now I’m dealing with their texts about it all hours of the night.

In fact, I picked up this book and read it way past my bedtime, then had to download book two before I’d even gotten out of bed the next morning. And then, horror of horrors, realized book three wasn’t even out yet!But don’t fret, book #3 was just released so go ahead and read them all! (I only had to wait a day for the release- the fates were smiling on me with that.)

Fall to You (Here and Now, #2)Fall to You by Lexi Ryan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s been a while since a series has swallowed me whole and kept me flicking pages on my kindle well into the night. Part love triangle (or is it quadrangle?)and part mystery, this series is all heat and longing and twisty circumstances.

Did I mention that I loved it?

All for This (Here and Now, #3)All for This by Lexi Ryan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hot damn, what a ride! This series kept me all twisted and tangled up right until the end. Even I wasn’t sure who I wanted her to end up with when I started this third book. After book one, I had a clear favorite (Nate) but then I started to like Max too. If I was having a hard time making a choice, it’s no wonder she took three books to do it 🙂 Not to mention the added complications and mysteries.

Whew, I’m sad to see it end, but glad I didn’t have to wait long for the third book!

Quickie Book Review – Unbroken: New Adult Romance Box Set by Theresa Weir

Great collection with quirky, compelling characters and interesting plotting. I’ve read books by Weir before and loved them, so I’m not surprised that I fell into a book coma by the time I finished reading the entire set in one rainy day. Read!

Quickie Book Review – Complicated Girl by Mimi Strong

Complicated GirlComplicated Girl by Mimi Strong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adore this book! Loved Meanie and all of her quirky issues. Mimi Strong has done it again with this series. Her humor, insights into human nature, and her ability to knit together a fabulous cast of characters has made Strong my go-to author these days. I would literally pick up anything by her, even a dystopian novel about space rabies.

Quickie Book Review – Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting

Clipped Wings (Clipped Wings, #1)Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Well, there were parts of this book that I really, really, liked. And others not-so-much. Hayden was done very well and he was definitely my favorite part of the book. There was a time or two where I thought he did or said something a little out of character, but overall I found him swoon-worthy and found myself longing to be under his (tattoo) gun. (insert eyebrow wiggle here)

Tenley, I didn’t like as much. I didn’t hate her, I just didn’t connect with her as much as I would have liked. I can’t put my finger on why that is, though. Perhaps it’s the way she reacts/handles her creepy Adviser or her over-bearing brother-in-law.

Together the couple is good, and I love how the tattoo/ deviant behavior/ pain-linked thing is worked into the story line. The other characters in the book are interesting and colorful, and the writing itself is superb. More than once I wished I was reading a dead-tree book so that I could circle a particularly good line or passage.

My biggest -thumbs-down-dislike was the ending. I mean…holy-cliffhanger. In all fairness, that wasn’t even a cliffhanger in the typical sense. There was no tying-up of issues, no warning whatsoever. I went to turn the page, only there were no more pages. It was like someone left off the last chapter (or several) and because of that the book didn’t feel complete at all. Usually, I don’t mind a cliff-hanger, but this one left a bad taste in my mouth.

**I received a copy of this novel via NetGalley for review purposes.

Quickie Book Review – Fix You by Christine Bell (Bash and Olivia Series)

Fix You, Bash and Olivia Book One (The McDaniels Brothers, #1)Fix You, Bash and Olivia Book One by Christine Bell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fix You is an intriguing start to a series, and I’m anxious to read the next book in line. I love the idea of a girl who starts the book as somewhat of a victim (even if she doesn’t fully realize it at the time)and takes steps to become a victim-no-more. Bonus points when the path to personal power involves a hunky fighter with a heart of gold.

The characters are interesting, the plot is well done and seems to have layers that are yet to be revealed, and the ending had me looking for book two as soon as I had a moment. Thumbs up!

Quickie Book Review – Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

Vampire Vacation (The V V Inn, #1)Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this, so much so that I forced my co-worker to get it immediately, since we have similar tastes in books. The plot/ world-building in this novel was inventive and original, the characters were fresh and complex, and I can definitely see myself reading more of this series, and by Ellisson in general!

Quickie Book Review – Blue Roses by Mimi Strong

Blue RosesBlue Roses by Mimi Strong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a sweet, sexy, and at times hilarious start to a new series. It comes with the typical Mimi wit I’ve come to love (and expect- so keep that up!) and interesting characters. IS there spice, yes… but perhaps not as heated as other books by Strong.

On a side note, I would love to read a novel that focuses on Rory (the best friend- I’m horrible with names) because she’s such a quirky character. You hear me Mimi?

**On a side note, I don’t think this book is available as a stand-alone novel currently. It’s part of a box set of several novels being release shortly, I believe.

Quickie Book Review – Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

Ten Tiny Breaths (Ten Tiny Breaths, #1)Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved this novel (and when I read book two, I found myself really, really loving that one too). It had the perfect mix of tragic past, quirky characters, undeniable heat, and the added benefit of those didn’t-see-that-coming plot twists. Great, dark and gritty first novel in a series.

And trust me, if you like this one, you’ll adore the next one!

Quickie Book Review – Typist- Billionaire Novelist Series by Mimi Strong

Typist - Billionaire Novelist: Complete SeriesTypist – Billionaire Novelist: Complete Series by Mimi Strong

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great mini series with a fabulous cast of characters, interesting (ahem) scenarios and that terrific humor that I’ve come to expect with Ms. Strong’s works.

If you love her other books, you’ll like this compelling collection as well!

Quickie Book Review – Belle Cora by Phillip Marguilies

Belle CoraBelle Cora by Phillip Margulies

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every once in a while, a book or movie comes along that covers almost the entire life span of the central character, and I always love them. They do wear me out, though. Once done, I feel like I’ve lived through all those years right beside my beloved character.

This time, though, I felt as if I had lived the tumultuous life of Belle Cora. The ups, the downs, the heartbreaks and recoveries. The betrayals and fate’s fickle touch.

Extremely well-written, Belle Cora is surely a worthy read. Don’t miss this one!
