7 Reason You Might Like Kill Me, by Alex Owens

Alex posted this on her site a few days ago and I just had to share 🙂

7 Reasons Why This Novel Might Be For:

  • Rock and roll, a strip club and some vamps with questionable morals sounds like your idea of a good time.
  • What’s better than a woman trying to chose between two men? A woman chosing between a man and another woman.
  • You like your fang stories with a healthy dose of darkness, grit or angst. i.e. No sparkly vamps for you!
  • You are an overworked Mom who has wished for super powers on more than one occasion.
  • You know that fanged Moms bite best!
  • Your ipod contains one or more of the following: Joan Jett, The Dollyrots, Korn, Rhianna, Vivaldi, Melissa Etheridge, Pink or 50-cents.
  • You know the answer to this question: Where is the worst place to develop Empath abilities? (A strip club, in case you didn’t know).
So, what are you waiting for? Check it out!

Quickie Book Review – Fashionably Dead (Hot Damned Series #1) by Robyn Peterman

Fashionably Dead (Hot Damned, #1)Fashionably Dead (The Hot Damned Series #1 ) by Robyn Peterman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book so much!

Aside from it’s fabulously inventive plot, it has the most creative, quirkified cast of characters that practically leap off the page (er, screen) in technicolor.

I found myself giggling late into the night and text more than one “gem” to a friend as I read. And then I made her read the book (she loved it too.) Then we read the next one and had an hour-long conversation about how we’d love to have our own little Beyonce & friends.

If you love your UF/ paranormal with a heaping-helping of snark, outlandish characters and humor that bites instead of tickles, definitely check out this series!

Quickie Book Review – Goddess Born by Kari Edgren

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great, well-written novel with historical, fantastical and romantical (couldn’t help myself there, sorry) elements, all blended perfectly. The characters were imaginative and well-formed and the underlying danger and suspense kept me turning the pages well into the night. Recommended!

Quickie Book Review – The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover Swank

The Curse Keepers (Curse Keepers, #1)The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover Swank

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a compelling, intricate novel. I thought the way the author wove in the missing settlement from the Outer Banks with native american lore was flipping genius, and the hot/cold chemistry between the main characters kept me on the edge of the page. And then there’s the danger and suspense element. Overall a great read!

Quickie Book Review – Eternal Starling by Angela Corbett

Eternal Starling (Emblem of Eternity, #1)Eternal Starling by Angela Corbett

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First, I adored the premise behind this first book of a series. How past lives could potentially influence and come back to bite a gal in her present life… it’s just so intriguing. And the way that the author sets everything up with finesse and craftiness is just so tasty to read.

So what’s a girl to do when the love of your past comes back to claim you? Think you know? Well, you don’t because he’s not the only new/old guy in your life. So how do you choose yet again and how do you know who’s really your soul mate when they both say they are?

I don’t want to reveal any more, so you’ll just have to read it 🙂

Quickie Book Review – Caged Wolf by S.M. Reine

Caged Wolf (The Tarot Witches, #1)Caged Wolf by S.M. Reine

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love, love, loved this book. I’ve read other kick-ass books by Reine in the past and I do think this one might just be my favorite so far.

The setting is so well done, I could practically feel the gritty desolation on my skin. And the cast of characters are imperfect, flawed, scarred and utterly believable. The plot itself is full of tension, intrigue and the feeling that something-magical is afoot. Of course, as the first book in the series not all was resolved… but I didn’t feel like I was left hanging by the ending.

And last, but not least, was the blazing hot romance buried within the story. It was as hot as a Harley sitting in the noon-day sun and pushed just enough boundaries to make the moments unforgettable 🙂

Read it, seriously!

Quickie Book Review – Waking the Dead by Heather Graham

Waking the DeadWaking the Dead by Heather Graham

I loved how this book mixes occult themes, suspense, and history together, and I enjoyed reading it. The larger cast of central characters was well developed and interacted nicely with each other and the plot itself was inventive and spine-tingly. Recommend!

Quickie Book Review Set – Claimed By The Alphas Series by Viola Rivard

Claimed by the AlphasClaimed by the Alphas by Viola Rivard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love this compelling, spicy series. What strikes me as most interesting about it (other than the scorching heat level and the menage, of course) is that the author has done an excellent job building a world where the plot seems possible and naturally evolving. There are details, sparsely planted throughout this and the other books in the series, that lend to the overall refreshing story line.

I don’t want to give too much away, and I’ve got four more books in the series to review… but the fact that I read them all back to back and had to download one as soon as I was done with the last one should speak volumes!

Claimed by the Alphas: Part TwoClaimed by the Alphas: Part Two by Viola Rivard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spicy, steamy, complex and satisfying. This second book in the Claimed by the Alphas series, is all that and more. The tension and heat keeps ratcheting skyward, the characters are evolving and revealing their personalities, and I found myself tearing through this book just to get to the next one.

Love, love, love this series! Onward to the next book!

Claimed by the Alphas: Part FourClaimed by the Alphas: Part Four by Viola Rivard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodness, this series is taking me on a ride. I adore the characters and the care that the author has taken in developing such a fabulous world for this series. The writing itself ain’t too shabby either 🙂

I’m not sure what to expect with the next book, and that’s half the fun of it. I devoured the first four books as I can’t wait for the next one to come out. It better be soon… I need my Alphas fix!

Quickie Book Review – Blood From A Silver Cross by E.S. Moore

Blood from a Silver Cross (Kat Redding, #4)Blood from a Silver Cross by E.S. Moore

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I need to preface this review by stating the obvious– I should have read the prior books in the series first. With that being said, I wasn’t too lost starting this one, and found my footing relatively quickly. Overall, I like the complex cast of characters this series has going on and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes their paranormal/ UF heroine’s to be kick-*ss and feisty.

This book itself was well-written, fast-paced and had a fair amount of unique world-building involved. A great way to spend a few hours escaping from reality!

Quickie Book Review – Playing with Fire by C.J. Archer

Playing With Fire (Freak House #2)Playing With Fire by C.J. Archer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ms. Archer sure does have a way of setting the page alight with heat and chemistry… and she came up with an ingenious way to keep the two lovebirds apart for the time being. Add in a cast of complex characters, a few Big Bad’s and a rich, historical setting and you have the makings of a great series. I also like how this series blends the scientific with the fantastical, in a way that makes everything seem plausible.

I’m just as satisfied after reading this book (#2 in the series) as I was after putting down the first one. Can’t wait to read the next installment!

(P.S – Sorry we’ve been AWOL, there’s just been so much going on lately. Will try to do a post about our craziness soon!)

Quickie Book Review – Hunters & Prey by Katie Salidas

Hunters & Prey (Immortalis, #2)Hunters & Prey by Katie Salidas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Really like this book! Having read the first novel in the series, I can say that the characters are ever-evolving and feel very fleshed-out. There was plenty of action in the Fanged tale, but we also get to watch as Alyssa wrestles with some fairly heavy moral struggles. Can’t wait to read the next one!
