Quickie Book Review – Vampire Sun by J.R. Rain (Samantha Moon series)

Vampire Sun (Vampire for Hire, #9)Vampire Sun by J.R. Rain

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series could only be better if Rain could manage to put out a new book every week or so, then I’d be happy. Who wouldn’t love a series about a Vamp mom with mystical qualities, a champion of the underdog, and she who flies on big black wings whenever her heart desires?

Seriously Rain, give me the next one S.T.A.T!

Quickie Book Review – Eternal Night by Carina Adly MacKenzie

Eternal NightEternal Night by Carina Adly MacKenzie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What if the ancient Gods did exist… and what if they’re still alive, yet powerless after hundreds of years of nobody believing in them? Then you’d end up with this novel.

I especially loved the interactions between the handful of Gods left. Eons of interactions make for riffs that span centuries, missed opportunities and regrets over choices long-ago made. Part fantasy, part mystery, this novel is all page-turner.

Quickie Book Review – Waking the Dead by Heather Graham

Waking the DeadWaking the Dead by Heather Graham

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved how this book mixes occult themes, suspense, and history together, and I enjoyed reading it. The larger cast of central characters was well developed and interacted nicely with each other and the plot itself was inventive and spine-tingly. Recommend!

Quickie Book Review Set – Claimed By The Alphas Series by Viola Rivard

Claimed by the AlphasClaimed by the Alphas by Viola Rivard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love this compelling, spicy series. What strikes me as most interesting about it (other than the scorching heat level and the menage, of course) is that the author has done an excellent job building a world where the plot seems possible and naturally evolving. There are details, sparsely planted throughout this and the other books in the series, that lend to the overall refreshing story line.

I don’t want to give too much away, and I’ve got four more books in the series to review… but the fact that I read them all back to back and had to download one as soon as I was done with the last one should speak volumes!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spicy, steamy, complex and satisfying. This second book in the Claimed by the Alphas series, is all that and more. The tension and heat keeps ratcheting skyward, the characters are evolving and revealing their personalities, and I found myself tearing through this book just to get to the next one.

Goodness, this series is taking me on a ride. I adore the characters and the care that the author has taken in developing such a fabulous world for this series. The writing itself ain’t too shabby either 🙂

I’m not sure what to expect with the next book, and that’s half the fun of it. I devoured the first four books as I can’t wait for the next one to come out. It better be soon… I need my Alphas fix!

Quickie Book Review – Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

Vampire Vacation (The V V Inn, #1)Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this, so much so that I forced my co-worker to get it immediately, since we have similar tastes in books. The plot/ world-building in this novel was inventive and original, the characters were fresh and complex, and I can definitely see myself reading more of this series, and by Ellisson in general!

Quickie Book Review – Better Off Dead by H.P. Mallory

Better Off Dead (Lily Harper, #1)Better Off Dead by H.P. Mallory

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not was I was expecting, but pleasantly surprised. And Bill, what can I say about him? And he’s just the supporting (sort of) character. I found myself laughing at the oddest times. I’m definitely intrigued by Mallory’s new paranormal series and I can’t wait to see where this journey is taking me. Check it out!

Quickie Book Review – Cold Antler Farm by Jenna Woginrich

Cold Antler Farm: A Memoir of Growing Food and Celebrating Life on a Scrappy Six-Acre HomesteadCold Antler Farm: A Memoir of Growing Food and Celebrating Life on a Scrappy Six-Acre Homestead by Jenna Woginrich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I can’t really put my finger on why I liked this book… perhaps it’s the dreamer in my reaching towards a lifestyle with more tangible, earthy experiences. Or maybe Woginrich is just that good.

Her book carries the reader through daily life on the farm where life, death, poop and animal antics reign supreme, and her prose is perfectly suited to telling the tale. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to another other souls looking to live vicariously down on the farm, even if only during the time it takes to read.

Quickie Book Review – Blue Roses by Mimi Strong

Blue RosesBlue Roses by Mimi Strong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a sweet, sexy, and at times hilarious start to a new series. It comes with the typical Mimi wit I’ve come to love (and expect- so keep that up!) and interesting characters. IS there spice, yes… but perhaps not as heated as other books by Strong.

On a side note, I would love to read a novel that focuses on Rory (the best friend- I’m horrible with names) because she’s such a quirky character. You hear me Mimi?

**On a side note, I don’t think this book is available as a stand-alone novel currently. It’s part of a box set of several novels being release shortly, I believe.

Quickie Book Review – One Tiny Lie by KA Tucker

One Tiny Lie (Ten Tiny Breaths, #2)One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As much as I loved the first book, Ten Tiny Breathes, I loved this second book even more. It was emotional, introspective, witty and pitch perfect. Books like this are the reason I’ve fallen for NA books– they are angsty, transformative and take me back to a time where the possibilities were endless and awesome.

In the vein of Colleen Hoover and other New Adult romance queens, I predict that K.A. Tucker has earned a position up there with the best of them.

Quickie Book Review – Typist- Billionaire Novelist Series by Mimi Strong

Typist - Billionaire Novelist: Complete SeriesTypist – Billionaire Novelist: Complete Series by Mimi Strong

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great mini series with a fabulous cast of characters, interesting (ahem) scenarios and that terrific humor that I’ve come to expect with Ms. Strong’s works.

If you love her other books, you’ll like this compelling collection as well!

Quickie Book Review – Belle Cora by Phillip Marguilies

Belle CoraBelle Cora by Phillip Margulies

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every once in a while, a book or movie comes along that covers almost the entire life span of the central character, and I always love them. They do wear me out, though. Once done, I feel like I’ve lived through all those years right beside my beloved character.

This time, though, I felt as if I had lived the tumultuous life of Belle Cora. The ups, the downs, the heartbreaks and recoveries. The betrayals and fate’s fickle touch.

Extremely well-written, Belle Cora is surely a worthy read. Don’t miss this one!
