Quickie Book Review – We Are Made of Stardust by Mimi Strong

We Are Made of Stardust (Peaches Monroe, #1)We Are Made of Stardust by Mimi Strong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fan-freaking-tabulous! I loved this book so much I wanna take it out for a drunken night on the town, then bring it home for hours of wicked debauchery.

Seriously though, it’s been a while since I’ve fallen so deeply into a book. The writing is out of this world, and the cast of characters so fleshed out I feel like I *know* these people. Complex, layered, witty.  And so damn hot that I almost melted my ereader a few times.

Can’t wait ’till the next one! Seriously, Ms. Strong… write faster please!

Book Review – Foresaken by the Others by Jess Haines

Forsaken by the Others (H&W Investigations, #5)Forsaken by the Others by Jess Haines

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Like an idiot, I accepted this ARC (via NetGalley) even though I haven’t read any of the other books. Because of that, this book took me a while to get into since I couldn’t keep the cast of characters or their importance straight in my head.

Other than my hubris, I did find that I really liked this novel. The world-building is great, the writing was sound and I do plan on going back and starting the series from the beginning.

The steamy-goodness at the story is, uh, nice 🙂 but it’s in limited quantities, so don’t read this thinking it’s going to be chock-full of romance.

Like others have mentioned, I did question the motives at times (give up my cell phone without a fight– no way!) but it wasn’t enough to detract from the story.

If you’re not a huge fan of cliffhangers, be prepared to be annoyed though. While I understand the purpose they serve– to move the reader on to the next book– I don’t like it when I’m finished with a book, but it doesn’t feel finished. If the story is mostly wrapped up, the cast gets to take a breath, and then is hit with another problem to carry over to the next book, that’s one thing. But, if it’s “WHAM! BAM! Over!” where the book essentially ends during the action it’s more frustrating in my opinion.

Still, I’ll go back and start the series from book One. Maybe by the time I’m done the next book will be out!

Authors Bewitch Readers With Halloween Ebook Sale

More than thirty horror authors are coming together this Halloween to offer book lovers a bewitching deal on almost fifty witch-themed ebooks on October 30, 31, & November 1, 2012.

Bargain hunting readers will find that a spell has been cast, magically lowering sale prices, which will range from free to $2.99 with the majority of ebooks being sold for 99 cents. The complete list of participating authors and their books featuring witches, warlocks, and other seasonally appropriate creatures is available at WitchyEbooks.Blogspot.com and includes links to the ebooks on retail sites.

Although their books share a similar witchy theme, the cauldron-stirring group of authors has approached the subject many different ways, from frightening to fun and from historical to hysterical. Some authors crossed genres, mixing romantic comedy with their witchcraft while others stuck to traditional hard core horror featuring evil witches. Assorted demons, vampires, ghosts, and zombies appear in various books as well.

The promotional idea originated with author E. L. Sarnoff who was looking for a way to work with other authors to cross-promote witch-themed novels and short stories during the month of October. Other writers immediately responded with enthusiasm and ideas including Vera Nazarian who summed up what many in the group felt when she said, “We are gonna rock Halloween!”

Author Alex Owens offered the use of her blog address, WitchyEbooks.Blogspot.com, which thanks to the fact that she gets “goose-pimply with excitement over anything and everything paranormal” she had already dedicated to “featuring all the Fantabulously Freaky witch books” that she could find.  Writer Cate Dean took the lead in compiling all the evolving information on each author’s books including, title, link, blurb, and sale price.

So what are you waiting for?

Head on over to WitchyEbooks and fill your Cackling-and-broom-riding-quota and then some!

Quickie Book Review – More by T.M. Franklin

MoreMore by T.M. Franklin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was not what I expected. It took me for a ride and then some, and I loved every minute of it. The cast of characters felt “true” and complicated- like real people, which drew me into their story fairly quickly. And then the odd and magical started to happen.

I did not see any of the twists and turns coming, which made them all the more exciting. Brilliant plot, flawless, fast-paced writing and an ending that left me begging for more!

The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton – Quickie Book Review

The Mind Readers (Mind Readers, #1)The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Mind Readers is about… you guessed it, a girl that can read minds. On the cusp of adulthood, the main character has become used to hiding her ability so that her and her grandmother don’t have to move again and start over. “Self-preservation first” is the motto. But motto’s can only get a girl so far…

Overall, a great paranormal tale with enough intrigue and twists to keep most adults happy despite the YA (read: PG-ness)and what seems like a promising start to a new series. I can’t wait to see what book two holds and how things will pan out after the ending of this first book. Read it!

End of Feb #FREE #ebook Blowout

As a way to celebrate the extra day we have in February this year, I’ve decided to run a One day special on several of our ebooks available through Amazon. So for today only, get your copies for FREE! (Be sure to check the price before downloading, sometimes AZ gets wonky!)

First up is the short story collection SKIN. Readers have had good things to say about this one from “wicked fun” to “quite disturbing and I loved it” so hop on over and grab your copy.

Next we have the story collection Still Life Paintings, a collection thematically linked by art. It has been said that a painter leaves a bit of his soul behind with each painting, but what happens when a painting gives you back the part that’s been missing? Grab a copy now and find out.

And then there is Memories for Sale, which is by far the most gentle of the freebies on this page. It’s been likened to a Hallmark movie, so if that sounds like your thing, snag a copy today.

Lastly, our newest release has only been out a short time, and it needs some newbie love. Grab a copy of Just Desserts today.

So Close! It’s Coming! Pre-Order Blood Chord now!

Since the time of KILL ME is growing ever near, I’ve decided to open up a unique form of pre-sales. I’m using the website Kickstarter, which offers artist, authors and other creative types the chance to raise support for various projects/ products.

I’m mainly using it for ebook pre-orders as a way to cover some of the costs associated with launching an Indie Book.  Of course, I’ve built in some benefits for readers too.  The ebook is going to sell for $4.99 but at the first support level (a whopping $0.99- you can’t even buy a cup of coffee for that!) you get the ebook– saving you $4.00!

But the perks don’t end there! I’m offering some sweet swag for the higher levels of support too. Picture a wicked-cool bookmark, made from a custom printed, pearloid guitar pick and ribbon, or a necklace featuring the same guitar pick. Or paperback copies, very limited edition hardcover books, or even promises for all future ebooks in the series… So what do you think?

KILL ME (Blood Chord series) Kickstarter Campaign

You can show your support indirectly by sharing this campaign with your friends, linking to it online or on Facebook, or tweeting. Any buzz that you can help generate would be greatly appreciated! And not to mention good for your karma levels! 🙂

On a side note, I’d love to have you guys stop by the campaign and tell me what you think about it. Does it look okay? Does everything make sense? Is it purty? 🙂 thanks!
