Remember, Reading is Hot!

Happy Friday the 13th! I’m not a typically superstitious person. In fact, I find things like black cats, the number 13 and whatnot to be fun-freaky instead of that-must-be-avoided. So let’s celebrate!

Here are some spicy reads to get your weekend kicked off to a rockin’ start. Some free, some not. All  are HOT!

Here’s something to think about as V-Day approaches 🙂

If you combine a good book (as sort of a pre-game, if you will) with that someone special things could… get… interesting!

Freebie book notice – Kill Me (Blood Chord book #1)

For five days, Jan. 25th – the 29th, Kill Me will be free on Amazon. This is big news, because it hasn’t even been on sale for well over a year, let alone FREE! Combined with the fact that book #2 is currently available for pre-order at almost a 50% discount and it’s a crazy time!

If you have a free sec, please share, tweet or repost this to help spread the lovin’!

Blood Chord Series on Amazon

About Alex & the Blood Chord series:

Alex Owens is a wife, mother, photographer and (of course) author living in Coastal Virginia with her family. She’s an avid reader and a paranormal fanatic. She owes her life-long devotion to the things that go bump in the night to the esteemed Anne Rice, who showed the world that creepy can indeed be beautiful at the same time.

After reading many of the popular paranormal series, including all of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter books, Mary Janice Davidsons Undead series, and of course the Sookie Stackhouse/ True Blood books, Alex realized that there was one type of paranormal vampire series that she hadn’t read yet:

A magical, mystical (maybe even Vampirish) series featuring a Mother as the heroine. And thus the Blood Chord series was born.

Blood Chord Series #2- Bite Me – Available for Pre-order

Just wanted to swing by and let everyone know that the second book in the Blood Chord series has been opened up for pre-order on Amazon!

Bite Me (Blood Chord #2)

Amazon Link:

After the disastrous business trip that ended her mortal life, all Claire wants to do is get her freakish talents and blood-lust (and let’s be honest, regular ol’ lust too) under control, so that she can be a good mom, hide her fangs and maybe try to coax her stripper-turned-nanny into wearing some actual clothes that won’t make the local biddies fire up the gossip chain.

Thanks to her Vampire Disability Fund, Claire just might get the boring life of her dreams after all. So what if two brothers (one hot, one decidedly jerkish) have moved into the only other house in her remote neck of the woods? And so what if she hasn’t heard a peep out of her maker Bette or the other two members of The Triad? No news is good news, right?

Oh, how wrong she is…

Bite Me (approx. 65,000 words) is the second release in the wicked Blood Chord Series. It contains a fair amount of music, magic, fangs and freaks, along with adult situations– you’ve been warned!

Snag your copy for almost half-price now! Once the book goes live, the price will go back up to $4.99!

P.S: If you haven’t read the first book in the series, Kill Me, here’s your chance. For five days, Jan. 25th through the 29th (2015) you can pick up an ebook copy for free! Snag #1 and preorder #2 — that’s less than three bucks for two books. You can’t even get a latte for that price anymore 🙂

Kill Me (Blood Chord #1 ) Free on Amazon for five days only! (It’s been more than a year since it was last on sale to boot!) Click to get your copy today:

Three days ago, Claire was a wife, a mother, and very much alive… then the music called for her.

Claire has one goal for the conference— to land a few big clients so that her boss will give her a raise.  Bette is at the conference on a mission—to find a human with untapped talents that she can mold and control. Bette lures Claire in with a haunting violin solo, unraveling Claire’s life as her new talents emerge. To make matters worse, Claire is attracted to two unlikely people— both can light Claire’s fire, but is either of them the only one?

Quickie Book Review – A Lost Witch by Debora Geary

A Lost Witch (A Modern Witch, #7)A Lost Witch by Debora Geary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m so sad to see this series end, but what a way to take it out with a bang!

I really feel as if my favorite Witch Central people are out there somewhere, still fetching new witches to help, still consuming copious amounts of cookies and using their powers to help us mortals out. One can hope 🙂

Quickie Book Review – Random Acts of Crazy by Julia Kent

Random Acts of Crazy (Random, #1)Random Acts of Crazy by Julia Kent

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story grabbed me by the short-hairs and took me for a crazy ride. I love the sense of humor, the outlandish circumstances, and the three’s-company ending 🙂 I hadn’t read anything by Kent before picking up this book, but I’ll certainly read more novels by her in the future!

(Spicy. Daring. So out-of-the-box you can’t even see the darn box anymore!)

Quickie Book Review – Lost and Found by Nicole Williams

Lost and Found (Lost and Found, #1)Lost and Found by Nicole Williams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book! Everything about it is pitch perfect, from the complex cast of characters, to the serene setting and the plot twists… oy! As a introspective nut-case, I also adored the complicated family drama and “deep” moments. For sure, I’ll read more by this author!

Quickie Book Review – Unbroken: New Adult Romance Box Set by Theresa Weir

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great collection with quirky, compelling characters and interesting plotting. I’ve read books by Weir before and loved them, so I’m not surprised that I fell into a book coma by the time I finished reading the entire set in one rainy day. Read!

Quickie Book Review – Hotter Than Helltown by S.M. Reine

Hotter Than Helltown (Preternatural Affairs, #3)Hotter Than Helltown by S.M. Reine

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s getting to the point where I devour every S.M. Reine book I open up, and this one is no different. Typically, I gravitate towards books that feature a female heroine, but I’m really digging this series even though (because of?) it’s decidedly MALE main character.

I’m starting to think I have a bit of a girl-crush on the author, or at least on her out-of-the-box creative brain. I don’t know where she comes up with her ideas, but it sure keeps me reading her novels!

Quickie Book Reveiw – Mistress of Night and Dawn by Vina Jackson

Mistress of Night and DawnMistress of Night and Dawn by Vina Jackson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In the vein of The Sleeping Beauty trilogy (Anne Rice writing as A.N. Rolequare- not sure if I spelled that correctly) comes this sensual tale of a young woman’s journey into a hidden world filled with timeless traditions steeped in eroticism and sexual exploration. But don’t be fooled into thinking this is just a spicy novel– no, it is so much more. It has layers, just waiting to be peeled with each turn of the page. Excellent read.

Quickie Book Review – Sadie the Sadist by Zane’ Sachs

Sadie the Sadist: X-tremely Black Humor/HorrorSadie the Sadist: X-tremely Black Humor/Horror by Zané Sachs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dark and Twisty…

I must say, given the grisly subject matter, I’m not sure if I should admit publicly how much I loved this novel. It’s funny, twisted and so sanely-insane that I’m starting to question my own sanity on top of Sadie’s. And I have to throw it out there, I’ll never look at an ear of corn quite the same way again. (shivers) Well done!

Quickie Book Review – Blue Roses by Mimi Strong

Blue RosesBlue Roses by Mimi Strong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a sweet, sexy, and at times hilarious start to a new series. It comes with the typical Mimi wit I’ve come to love (and expect- so keep that up!) and interesting characters. IS there spice, yes… but perhaps not as heated as other books by Strong.

On a side note, I would love to read a novel that focuses on Rory (the best friend- I’m horrible with names) because she’s such a quirky character. You hear me Mimi?

**On a side note, I don’t think this book is available as a stand-alone novel currently. It’s part of a box set of several novels being release shortly, I believe.
