Quickie Book Review – Coming for You by J.A. Huss

Coming for You (Dirty, Dark, and Deadly, #3)Coming for You by J.A. Huss

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Twisty and hot and awesome

I have loved all the books in this and the related series, but this one was so suspenseful and twisty that I’m gonna have a book hangover in the morning, I just know it! Must. Read. It.

Quickie Book Review – Guns: The Spencer Book by J.A. Huss

Guns: The Spencer Book: (Rook and Ronin Spinoff)Guns: The Spencer Book: by J.A. Huss

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Damn,I loved this book!

Just when I think that the last Huss novel was my favorite ever, I go and read another one- which blows me out of the water.

The heat between Spencer and Ronnie is nuclear, the suspense had me reading as fast as I could go, and that ending… perfect!

(If it seems like I’m on a J.A. Huss binge, that’s because I am. Her books are da’ bomb and if you haven’t read any of them yet, get to it already!)

7 Reason You Might Like Kill Me, by Alex Owens

Alex posted this on her site a few days ago and I just had to share 🙂

7 Reasons Why This Novel Might Be For:

  • Rock and roll, a strip club and some vamps with questionable morals sounds like your idea of a good time.
  • What’s better than a woman trying to chose between two men? A woman chosing between a man and another woman.
  • You like your fang stories with a healthy dose of darkness, grit or angst. i.e. No sparkly vamps for you!
  • You are an overworked Mom who has wished for super powers on more than one occasion.
  • You know that fanged Moms bite best!
  • Your ipod contains one or more of the following: Joan Jett, The Dollyrots, Korn, Rhianna, Vivaldi, Melissa Etheridge, Pink or 50-cents.
  • You know the answer to this question: Where is the worst place to develop Empath abilities? (A strip club, in case you didn’t know).
So, what are you waiting for? Check it out!

Quickie Book Review- 3, 2, 1 by JA Huss

Three, Two, One (321)Three, Two, One by J.A. Huss

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This one’s going to take a while to get over!

I can already tell after just a few minutes from reading the last word in this book that I’m going to spend a few days with a book hangover. It’s so fabulously tragic and gritty and hopeless at times that when the sweet, loving parts come they are all that much more poignant.

As I read the last two sentences, I cried. Sudden and bittersweet. And let me tell you, this chick doesn’t cry easily or often. Huss nailed this one out of the ballpark.

Blood Chord Series #2- Bite Me – Available for Pre-order

Just wanted to swing by and let everyone know that the second book in the Blood Chord series has been opened up for pre-order on Amazon!

Bite Me (Blood Chord #2)

Amazon Link:

After the disastrous business trip that ended her mortal life, all Claire wants to do is get her freakish talents and blood-lust (and let’s be honest, regular ol’ lust too) under control, so that she can be a good mom, hide her fangs and maybe try to coax her stripper-turned-nanny into wearing some actual clothes that won’t make the local biddies fire up the gossip chain.

Thanks to her Vampire Disability Fund, Claire just might get the boring life of her dreams after all. So what if two brothers (one hot, one decidedly jerkish) have moved into the only other house in her remote neck of the woods? And so what if she hasn’t heard a peep out of her maker Bette or the other two members of The Triad? No news is good news, right?

Oh, how wrong she is…

Bite Me (approx. 65,000 words) is the second release in the wicked Blood Chord Series. It contains a fair amount of music, magic, fangs and freaks, along with adult situations– you’ve been warned!

To make matters worse, Claire is attracted to two unlikely people— both can light Claire’s fire, but is either of them the only one?

Quickie Book Review – The Language of Hoofbeats by Catherine Ryan Hyde

The Language of HoofbeatsThe Language of Hoofbeats by Catherine Ryan Hyde

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Compelling read

This is the first book that I’ve read by Hyde, and I can say with out a doubt that it won’t be the last. The author has a way of getting down into the bits of human emotion that most people are afraid to explore. This novel is compelling, touching and the perfect introspective read for a blustery winter night.

Interesting, original novel with enough mystery and tension to keep you flipping the pages well into the night. The characters were compelling and I’m very curious to see where the cards fall in the second book. Thumbs up!

Quickie Book Review – A Celtic Witch by Debora Geary

A Celtic Witch (A Modern Witch, #6)A Celtic Witch by Debora Geary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I adore all the Modern Witch books, but I particularly loved this book, with it’s musical bent. I’ve longed believed music is magic, with it’s particular way of transporting us to a different mood, a singular moment, to ease the melancholy of our spirits and heal old wounds. So goes this book… a magic all it’s own.

Quickie Book Review – A Different Witch by Debora Geary

A Different Witch (A Modern Witch, #5)A Different Witch by Debora Geary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the things I love the most about this series is the author’s uncanny ability to allow her characters to make mistakes and grow from them, and Witch Centrals resident Mama Bear is no exception to this. In this book, Nell finally finds herself in a situation she can’t control, with a person she fails to understand. What has worked for her in the past doesn’t, and Nell has to adapt– to grow.

It’s what we all do over time, grow, adapt and (hopefully) learn from our experiences. Watching the witch central characters expand and bloom has been such a gift!

Love this series, love the quirky characters and the way the fetching spell keeps finding wayward witches. Reading this series is like a balm to my soul.

Quickie Book Review – A Modern Witch by Debora Geary

A Modern Witch (A Modern Witch, #1)A Modern Witch by Debora Geary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this novel a while ago, but recently came back to the series and read the whole lot of them in just a handful of days. Aside from this series being one of the most innovative (combining tech-now with the older witchy traditions) it is also one of the most life-affirming, uplifting series that I’ve ever had the pleasure to read.

The author’s love for her characters comes through loud and clear, as evidenced by the amount of thought and care she put into breathing life into them, holding their hands through tough times, and laughing with them over nutella cookies and ice cream. Start here, then read all 7 books in the main series, but don’t forget the spin-off series as well!

Trust me, you’ll feel like a better person after living among the people of Witch Central for over a dozen book’s worth!

Great YA/ NA paranormal novel. It threw me into the action fairly quickly and didn’t let up until the end. I adored the premise and can’t wait to see where the characters end up in book two!
